For several cancer patients, it represents a median survival period – a small window of time that can mean the difference between life and death.
But what if I tell you that 14 months is also the time it may take to set up a license between the public and private sector to start developing life-saving technologies? And unfortunately, excessively long negotiation periods are reported for all R&D activities (service, material transfer, collaboration, etc.) between public and private sectors.
It’s a sobering reality of just how precious time is and a reminder that we have a responsibility to do better. We owe it to the patients.
